The New Year is here! I want to wish you all lots of health and happiness for 2024. In fact, these two aspects of life work hand in hand… and it all begins in the gut. How did you fare over the holidays?
What we ingest has a direct effect on the mind and body. That’s often what I tell clients who want to know how to feel better. All too often we normalize being tired, being sick, spending hours in front of screens, and not wanting to exercise. Biologically, it’s not normal to feel low energy all the time. It’s also not normal for the human body to be sedentary all the time. Our ancestors were nomadic and spent their days walking in nature to hunt and gather. They were outdoors all the time being exposed to the natural elements and light, unlike today where most people are indoors and exposed to artificial lighting.
So, how can we get back to feeling good, feeling vibrant, and feeling strong every day?
“If you tie your goals to being healthy, you will always be happy.”- Tania Cucciniello
You can find this quote right on my homepage. I emphasize the importance of this because it’s real and accurate. A life built around healthy goals will keep you feeling at your best day in and day out.
The best way to do that is to get back to basics! Follow the simplest guidelines when it comes to movement, hydration, and nutrition. A back-to-basics approach stresses simplicity and allows adherence to fundamental principles to be more successful.
What are they?
2L of water/day
4 protein meals/day
6 hours of exercise/week
8 hours of sleep/night
10k steps/day
These practices are easy to stick to, even during the holiday season. The trick is not to stop because everyone dreads having to start again. Instead, remain consistent and soon you will see the benefits these basics have on the mind. Consistency allows your endorphins to keep flowing, which helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve focus. Anyone with less pain and stress can feel an overall sense of well-being.
Follow the basics and thrive! Act, believe, and achieve.
